Priority Learners
The Ministry of Education has identified a need to focus on raising student achievement levels for Māori and Pasifika learners, those from low socio-economic backgrounds and those learners with special educational needs.
It is essential that you make the time and effort to get to know your learners so that you understand where they come from and what motivate them, creating learning opportunities that engage and support their individual needs in a positive culturally responsive manner. You need to connect with whanau on their learning journey too so that together you can make a positive difference. For more discussion about enhancing learning for Māori students, join this group in the VLN. For stories and further support for Pasifika learners, see the Pasifika Education Community on TKI.
By understanding how digital tools can increase the ability to differentiate for ALL learners, we are able to create learning environments that meet specific needs. A wonderful resource for teachers has been created on the Universal Design for Learning site. For more discussion about Universal Design for Learning, join this group in the VLN.
You might be wondering how we would measure the impact of using technology and e-learning. This is a regular topic on the VLN as well, have a look at this discussion thread for some opinions and resources.
